A photograph, recipe card, letter, object, or family name can open a conversation. Ask the person who remembers it what it means to them.
For the family story keepers
Some stories live in a shoebox. Others live in a name, a favorite recipe, or the way a grandparent remembers home. Help keep free Italian American stories and resources available for families discovering those connections.

A place to begin
Our free family-story guide offers a practical first step. You can use it today, whether or not you choose to give.
A photograph, recipe card, letter, object, or family name can open a conversation. Ask the person who remembers it what it means to them.
Explain how you hope to preserve the memory. Ask before recording, and let the speaker choose what stays within the family.
Note the speaker, date, place, and original spellings. Separate memories from facts you have checked in a record. Save a backup with the story.
Give with someone in mind
Honor a parent, grandparent, ancestor, friend, or neighbor who helped connect you to your heritage. If donating directly, you can add an optional dedication. Workplace programs may also offer a dedication field.
Your gift supports the Institute’s mission: free publishing, editorial research, educational resources, website, and developing story archive. It does not reserve a service or purchase a published tribute.
Your company may help, too
When your employer offers a 1:1 match, your $25 gift can become $50 for Italian American heritage. Check your company’s giving program for eligibility, limits, and deadlines.
Our opening corporate match applies to the opening donor’s gift. Your own employer determines whether and how it matches your contribution.
Alghini Institute for Italian Americans is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. EIN: 99-0439703. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Gifts support the Institute’s mission and are unrestricted.
A gift does not purchase a service, archive entry, or story publication. Donors may separately opt in to a name acknowledgment after their personal gifts are verified. Workplace giving receipts may come from the foundation that processes your company’s program.
