Biography

Anthony J. Celebrezze (1910–1998) was born in Anzi, Italy, and grew up in Cleveland. He served as Cleveland's mayor from 1953 to 1962, then as secretary of health, education and welfare from 1962 to 1965. Appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in 1965, he took senior status in 1980 and continued judicial service until his death in 1998.
